Richard Crouch, P.E. - Principal

Mr. Crouch is a Principal with Summit Blue Canada. He has twenty-five years of experience in utility and related industries. Prior to joining Summit Blue, has also been involved in assisting an Ontario-based retailer improve its business processes and systems for its entry in the New York retail market. Mr. Crouch's involvement in successful demand-side management (DSM) program management dates back to the late 1980's. At that time he was responsible for a number of innovative and market transforming industrial market programs. Mr. Crouch also has a proven background in operational successes in both regulated and deregulated market settings.

  • Performing market characterizations and assessments of the industrial electrical energy efficiency market in Ontario. Primary work areas include characterizing energy markets and providing the background information required to define programs, delivery concepts, target markets, and potential for different types of programs.
  • Designing and implementing customer-focused and channel-enabled DSM programs for targeted customer segments such as chemical, food and beverage, and municipal waste water treatment sectors. This work involved analysis of industrial customer needs; identification and quantification of market barriers; understanding of channel capabilities and gaps; development of program tactics; and dynamic management of program interest, activity and results.
  • Conducting a situational analysis and a strategy development for a utility economic development (ED) program. Follow-up work from this project included the development of program elements and the formation and facilitation of a multi-organization ED alliance.
  • Developing a strategy for green power marketing. The project involved performing psychographic market research of target customers and developing a pricing strategy and promotional plan.
  • Developing a wholesale settlement service business aimed at the largest wholesale customers in Ontario; providing daily reviews of metering data and Independent Electrical System Operator (of Ontario) settlements statements; developing software that met the needs of industrial customers, including the needs of dispatchable customers.

Mr. Crouch co-chaired an industry-wide task force used to develop the retail settlements code for the competitive retail electricity market in Ontario. He has sat on numerous industry committees and has presented papers at conferences.
