The Summit Blue spotlight is on Adam Knickelbein, a Consultant who has been with Summit Blue since 2004. Adam has more than five years in the energy industry, and he specializes in managing field data collection and engineering analysis. He lends his technical expertise to numerous EM&V studies and is most interested in deploying metering equipment as a tool for determining energy and demand savings for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) lighting and motors.
In his current project work, Adam plays an integral role in directing the technical portion of a large study for the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC), which measures both baseline and post-retrofit lighting load profiles at small businesses throughout the Investor-Owned Utility (IOU) territories. The work includes a comprehensive inventory of the installed lighting equipment, on-the-spot measurements of fixture wattage to determine in-situ lighting power, and measuring the runtime hour of every switched lighting circuit at the site that control fixtures to be retrofit.
Since joining Summit Blue, Adam has determined appropriate savings and cost estimates for several DSM potential studies, analyzed the impacts and cost-effectiveness of several energy efficiency programs, including both resource acquisition- and market transformation-type programs, and conducted on-site measure verification and end-use metering at more than 200 commercial, industrial, and residential facilities around the country.
In addition to his professional life, Adam enjoys spending time outside – skiing, climbing, and hiking. While hiking in Cinque Terre, Italy, this year, Adam lent his technical expertise to rescue a woman who had fallen off a cliff and was dangling precariously hundreds of feet above the sea.
